BAU – Camp Empowered is an annual 4 days 3 nights camp organised by the EMPOWERED Ministry from 23 – 26 November. This year’s theme was taken from the book of Ezekiel, chapter 34 verse 11; “For this is what the sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them”. The event was held at Borneo Tribal Village, Kampung Apar, Bau. Situated 19 miles away from the heart of the city, the place is ideal for camp due to its natural surroundings and peaceful atmosphere. A total of 95 campers participated.
This year’s guest speaker was Andre Ong from Penang. Besides the guest speaker, a few other speakers also took on a few sessions at the camp, namely, Benedict Lo, and seminarians, Dominic Tan, Simon Lau, Bonaventure Rayappan and Ronald Jimmy. The campers also had daily Mass throughout the camp, from the Opening Mass presided over by Fr Larry Tan, SJ to Mass at the camp with Fr Martin Wong.
The campers had interactive, inspiring and insightful sessions with all the speakers. The topics ranged from God’s love to family life, worldly issues and teenage struggles. Throughout the camp, the campers learned the Word of God, deepened their faith and their relationship with God through the sessions, camp activities, worship and ministering. The lack of mobile cellular signal at the campsite also helped the campers to bond more intimately with one another, over all the activities and meal times, and BBQ night.
Camp Empowered ended with a Family Nite, where families dined together before campers’ presentation of Bible stories. They brought a lot of laughter through their skits. That evening, the speaker also gave an exhortation followed by prayers for both parents, children and families. For the participants, Camp Empowered 2017 is not the end but only the beginning.
“Ever since my first encounter with God back in Seed 2015, I began to seek God deeper and always ‘crave’ for more camps to join. After attending and serving a few programmes done by Empowered Ministry, CE has the biggest impact in my life (so far). I hope in the next CE, there would be more people attending to experience what I have experienced” Mathilda Eline, Form 4
“CE17 is a blessing to me, not only during the event day itself, but also during preparations as the event drew closer” Benjamin Raphael, Form 3
“I believe God is always helping us. It could be something small, but because of his help, I had the best time at the camp, all thanks to God for giving me the comfort” Serena Kimlily, Form 4
“One of the ministers prayed for me, and in just a few minutes later I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit tou ching me and after that, I cried so hard while saying “I’m sorry Jesus” as I recalled all my sins. And there, I heard a whisper saying “I forgive you my son” and that changed me” Paul Winner, Form 4
