KUCHING – The Working Adults Meetup (WAM) by CHOICE Kuching (Working Adults Ministry) & EMPOWERED Ministry (St Joseph’s Cathedral, Parish Youth Ministry) had a monthly gathering on Friday, 13th April for a sharing session on Political Awareness and Social Responsibility by members from the Political and Social Awareness Ministry, which is based in the Blessed Sacrament Church; and friends.
The session started with praise and worship, followed by a summary of the recent ‘Malaysia, Sarawak and You Forum’ that was held on 7th April at ACCPC, by Francis Thoo from the organising committee of the Forum. The summary touched on the forum panellists’ response to economic policy, religious freedom, governance and accountability and rebalancing Sarawak and Federal relations.
With the General Election 14 approaching, topics such as voter’s rights and reminders for voting day was also discussed. One of the highlights of the session was when Simon Siah and Athina Sim shared their personal testimony to being called to step out of their comfort zone to be involved in politics and political change.
The speakers encouraged everyone to be a part of the political process through any of the various means such as voting, volunteering or helping with policy creation; that one does not have to be a politician to ‘do something’. They also challenged one to accept one’s own mistakes and problems, to take responsibility and make a change to improve one’s own life.
WAM is a newly formed Working Adults Group and welcomes all young (working) adults age 20 years old and above to monthly gatherings at the St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish Centre. The next gathering is on 11th May with topic “Frontiers of Mission Today” followed by the another gathering on 8th June, 8PM – 10PM. For more information, please email admin@empoweredministry.org.
